A little musing

Angele Toomey Avatar

No introduction to this one, it’s pretty self explanatory, I hope!

Speaking easily
Words strung together
As a string of flickering
party lights, distracting
and drawing you in.
I mention a Speak Easy
I went to once
and you can smell the cigar
smoke hanging in the air.
You suddenly feel the urge
to order a Manthattan
or perhaps an Old Fashioned.
Sequined fabric is pressing
into the backs of your thighs
and the backbeat is inviting
your feet to tap the wooden floor.
But I slowly pull you back
Until you are, once again,
beside me on the metal bench
waiting for the train.
