Embracing the Winter Transition: A Poetic Journey

Angele Toomey Avatar

In the Southern Hemisphere, we have officially begun winter. It doesn’t feel that way where I am living at the moment.

The Slow March to Winter
After the music of summer parties
Has faded,
And familiar faces are lost to the darkness,
I begin my journey home.

Bright days slowly begin their descent,
Resisting
The unwelcome cold embrace of longer nights.
I am filled with darker moods.

Leaves fall around me like confetti,
Defeated,
As if the earth is shedding joy
Gold left to rest at my feet—
The earth has shed its old joy.

I am on the slow march to winter.
A woman is walking through the autumn leaf fall. Golden leaves carpet the ground
