Some people drift from our lives so quietly, we only notice their absence much later—when a familiar scent, a soft light, or an unexpected pause makes space for them to return, briefly, in memory. Long Lost Friend is a quiet meditation on emotional distance, the erosion of attachment, and the strange way certain absences continue to shape us long after we’ve “moved on.”
This poem reflects the kind of gentle weathering we all experience—the soft fade of connection, not with bitterness, but with a reflective grace. It’s part of my Weathered collection, where the passage of time leaves its imprint not just on skin, but on spirit.
Long lost friend
There was a time
I thought of you
often — wondering
where you walked,
what night sky you looked up to.
I used to reach for you,
for the longest time
And then the world moved on
and so did I.
Now, I think of you
only when the light
falls a certain way —
as if memory has a shadow.
