Marching Words: A Poem on Resistance

Angele Toomey Avatar

This one truly is from the archive! I found it on a piece of scrap paper recently when I spring cleaning. I think it dates back to the pink pussy hat marches that marked Trump’s first term.

The Resisters
Word by word,
Whisper by whisper,
Person by person —
we spread the message.

Their lies are a net
but the holes are too wide
to catch the truth we carry.
They can’t cast the spell
that strips our humanity
for the sake of their fragile vanity.

Word by word,
Whisper by whisper,
Person by person —
we spread the fire
