I was tossing up whether to try to write something new today – it’s Waitangi Day in Aotearoa today. The public holiday has given me moment of reflection and stillness, and I wondered if I could create something out of the ether.
Waitangi Day is a special time for thinking about the way in which this country was colonised, and the path on which we’ve been ever since.
This is not a Waitangi Day themed poem, but it kind of is about journeys, and looking to the future.

There is an elusive melody in my head
it's playing on a loop,
but I cannot catch the thread.
There is a powerful word on my tongue
caught between its delivery
and where it had all begun.
There is a sense of change behind my eyes
blind to what could be
the next chapter, the next life surprise.
