Freedom on the wing

Angele Toomey Avatar

This week my commuting pattern changed due to some new work that has come my way. That means for the next wee while I will be getting the train into town more often.

The upside of this change, is that I will have more moments to think, stare out the train window, and allow inspiration to seep through the noise of daily life. It’s these minutes of relative quiet that enable me to let my thoughts run free.

And the poem below is the result of my new routine…

Small bird over the harbour
Suspended in time and space
peace broken only by
a change in current.
Fine feathers
flocking together
over a harbour calm
and bright.

I want to feel the
autumnal air on
my wings too.

Instead I travel
in a metal cocoon,
dreaming of a freedom
I may feel...one day soon.

One the things I love about living in a harbour city is the ever changing view – the harbour is always busy with life. The birds often catch my eye, and I can’t help but envy their freedom!
