Galloping horses

Angele Toomey Avatar

There is an incredibly delicious Thai dish called Mah Hor, which I believe, translates to galloping horses. Sadly, this blog does not contain the recipe for this highly recommended culinary treat. I am awake again and decided to get up and write about the impact of having a bad dream (aka nightmare or frightmare).

Night horses
The horses that gallop
through my dreams
with wild abandon
delight in the
existential dread
I cannot outrun.

They may stop to graze
on fodder grown
thorny and bitter
after years of neglect
amongst hope cast
aside like litter.

But soon they are off again
racing to the brink
of their existence
and my conscious state -
sleep does not come easy
After they've paid a visit.
